MASA Emergency Medical Transportation Services
When an emergency occurs, many Americans don’t have enough savings to cover the related out-of-pocket expenses. A recent study by Business Insider found that over half of the American population lives paycheck to paycheck. Even a minor medical expense could result in a financial setback and a medical emergency could be catastrophic, in more ways than one. That’s why you need MASA MTS. Our memberships provide benefits that help cover the unexpected costs of emergency transportation.
AVOID OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS WITH MASA MTS
MASA Medical Transporation Services
Our Memberships shield you from extremely-high charges due to commonly-denied ambulance claims. Estimates from the US Department of Labor say that at least 14% of all submitted medical claims are rejected each year. That’s 1 out of 7 claims, which amounts to over 200 million claims per year.
Considering 1 out of 10 people will make an emergency call every year, the threat of excessive emergency bills is very real.
MASA Emergency Medical Transportation Services
Emergency medical transportation is extremely expensive and if your provider is out-of-network, you become responsible for a majority of the bill. The majority of where people work and plan in Central Oregon is an hour plus from the only hospital in Central Oregon. When there is a large area with only one hospital that is often close to capacity, you could be forced to seek emergency medical assistance in Portland. Essentially, that means you have a 50/50 chance of being billed thousands of dollars after an emergency… And that’s not even including your copay or deductible.

Does My Group Health Insurance Cover Medical Transportation Services?
If an EMT crew or a medical doctor decides you’re in need of Emergency Medical Transportation they are going to order it and you are going to get either an air ambulance ride or transportation in an ambulance to the nearest hospital. No one will ask the question does his or her health insurance cover the expense of the transport. EMT’s and Doctors are in the business of saving your life, not insurance.
Most health insurance companies do provide some coverage for emergency medical transport, but none of them cover the entire cost. This service can run you anywhere from $5,000 to $75,000 or even more if you are out of the country. The typical health insurer may cover up to 30% of the total bill. Leaving you and your loved ones having to come up with the money to pay the balance owed to the air or ground ambulance company. Ouch!
Independent Emergency Transportation Companies have exploded in the last 10 years. Air-ambulance companies enjoy favorable treatment under federal law, so they can charge what they want for their services. Needless to say, the consumer is often left holding a very large bill after their insurer has paid their covered portion. If you don’t know what that amount is you should find out.
WHAT ABOUT THE AIR AMBULANCE TRANSPORTATION MEMBERSHIPS?
Many emergency medical transportation companies sell annual memberships that will pay for your transport to the nearest hospital if you need it. Which is great if you happen to be in their coverage area and you are picked up by the company you bought the membership through. Ahhh, that’s the catch. You may not be in their coverage area and since the emergency medical companies often have contracted coverage area. Also you could be picked up by a different company then the one you are contracted with, because the emergency transportation companies are typically called out using the round robin or next-up dispatch method.
